THE RCCG CHRIST CHURCH STORY

PREAMBLE

The church as we all know is more than the mere edifice it occupies! The church is the people, the church is the community, the church is all of us under God.

Redeemed Christian Church of God, Christ Church Parish is our church; a place consecrated for genuine worship and intimate fellowship with God. It is a church that has set its heart on providing succor from the vicissitudes of life. Established on God’s principles; a loving, impactful, holy, unifying church; an innovative and pacesetting home of miracles, salvation, signs and wonders; a praying, prosperous church, promoting excellence – the best church in the world.

Our vision is to be a cutting-edge and dynamic church committed to teaching the word of God with all truth and integrity.

We are wholly Bible-based and believe in the teachings of our Lord Jesus Christ and the power of the Holy Ghost. We are also a socially responsible citizen as we believe that the church must be relevant to its local environment in particular and the world at large.

OUR STORY:
Like the proverbial little acorn, Christ Church has over the years transformed into a mighty oak! Christ Church was birthed in 1994 as a parish of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Apapa Parish by Pastor Tayo Badejoko and twelve others. The inaugural service which was conducted by Assistant Pastor Agbo Oni Orisan was held at the Newcastle Hotel in Anthony on the first Sunday in October 1994.

The church held its services at several locations in Anthony, Lagos, up until April 1997 when it finally secured its present location. At first, the site was prepared for the mounting of a big tent. The site preparation period was a wonderful experience as members and amazingly some neighbors volunteered their Saturdays to render menial labor to augment the cost of labor.

Upon completion of the big tent in April 1997, the Courage Centre as it was called then, metamorphosed into two parishes: StraitGate Parish at Anthony Villlage and Christ Church at Gbagada. This was necessitated by the need to retain a place of worship for members who could not conveniently worship and participate in church activities at the Gbagada location. However, the name “Courage Centre” was maintained for the entire grounds and vision of the work.

In August 1999, another change occurred. Pastor Tayo Badejoko relocated and started the RCCG Courage Centre in Philadelphia, United States of America. Pastor Ituah Ighodalo, who until then was one of the Assistant Pastors at the RCCG City of David Parish, Victoria Island, became the Parish Pastor.

Pastor Ituah Ighodalo who came with youthful zeal and vigor, focused on development of the people, stabilizing the Church, and laying emphasis on both church growth and expansion. Before his departure, Pastor Tayo Badejoko had a vision to build a befitting sanctuary for the Lord. Pastor Ituah ran with this vision even though it seemed physically and financially impossible, and he saw it through to completion. In August 2009, Pastor Segun Omotosho took over as Pastor-in-Charge from Pastor Ituah.

In August 2010, Christ Church became the Provincial Headquarters of the newly established RCCG Lagos Province 35, with Pastor Remi Morgan former pastor in charge of R.C.C.G Lagos province 24 as the Pastor-in-Charge of the new Province. Pastor Gbenga Folayan is currently the pastor in charge of both the area and parish.

Christ Church is indeed the fulfillment of God’s Word, “Now unto Him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think according to the power that worketh in Him be glory in the church by Christ jesus throughout all ages, world without end, Amen.(Ephesians 3:20-21 KJV).

Till date, Christ Church has birthed over 15 parishes both within and outside Nigeria. With more plans for expansion to build a sanctuary of peace and hope, it is our prayer that the vision will not tarry…
