Our Story

The Story Behind the church

The Redeemed Christian Church of God, Christchurch – formerly known as Courage Centre, was birthed in 1994 by PastorTayo Badejoko and twelve volunteer workers as a parish of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Apapa Family.

RCCG, Apapa Family came into being when the General Overseer of the Mission, Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye mandated Pastor Tony Rapu and 50 other workers at the Headquarters in Ebute Metta to commence a model parish of the Mission. This would be a church of young, mobile, educated professionals and students. The Church started at Roxy Cinema in Apapa on Sunday, 5th May, 1991 and subsequently moved to Freedom Hall in Surulere in 1992 from where numerous other parishes were planted, including Courage Centre (Christchurch) in 1994.

RCCG Courage Centre held her inaugural service on Sunday, 9th October 1994 conducted by Assistant Pastor Agboola Oni Orisan. Pastor Tayo Badejoko functioned as the founding Parish Pastor till when he relocated to USA in 1999 laying a sound and solid foundation for the church.

Pastor Tayo was succeeded by Pastor Ituah Ighodalo who was used by God to oversee the completion of the building, growth and transformation of the church from the days of the ‘Big Tent’ to RCCG Christchurch.

Assistant Pastor Segun Omotosho took over the reign of leadership of the church following the departure of Pastor Ituah in 2009 and continued to steer the ship till August 2010.

In August 2010, RCCG Christchurch became the Province Headquarters of the newly created Lagos Province 35 having Pastor Remi Morgan as the appointed Province Pastor (supported by his wife Pastor (Mrs) Yinka Morgan). Prior to that time, Pastor Remi was the Pastor in-Charge, Lagos Province 24, with headquarters at the Masters’ Court, Victoria Island, Lagos.

Pastor Remi (PRM) was assisted by Pastor Gbenga Folayan fondly called (PGF) at Lagos Province 35 Headquarters, Christchurch and a team of committed and spirit-filled ministers and workers. After a meritorious service in Christchurch, Pastor Gbenga Folayan was transferred and promoted in September 2016 as Assistant Pastor in-Charge of Province (Admin), RCCG LP 67. Pastor Yomi Sanya currently assists the PICP in the Parish. The Lord has continued to manifest Himself in the midst of His people as the church has continued to be a place where individual giftings are identified, developed and deployed to impact the kingdom and society at large. To God be all the glory.
