Text: Genesis 6:1-8
And it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born unto them, [2] That the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose. [3] And the Lord said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years. [4] There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown. [5] And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. [6] And it repented the Lord that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart. [7] And the Lord said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them. [8] But Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord .

We thank God for the month of May, the fifth month of 2020. Five is the number of grace. May we all locate this grace in Jesus mighty name.

From our text, we learn that the sons of God (fallen angels) took pretty daughters of men as wives. Consequently, God determined that His “spirit shall not always strive with man for that he is flesh” and reduced his age to 120. Giants existed in the earth. Sons of God (fallen angels) had children with daughters of men who became mighty men and men of renown. God observed the great wickedness of man on earth and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. God repented that He had made mad and it grieved Him at His heart. God determined to destroy man, beast, creeping thing, fowls of the air, “for it repenteth me that I have made them”.

Text highlights certain things: God’s order in creation, God’s commandments and principles were b e i n g m a l i c i o u s l y attacked, there were contrary doctrines, diverse kinds of temptations and oppression (like being attacked by even folks who have become a voice in this social media world) against those who stood for holiness, righteousness, peace, love, proper conduct and behavior, meritocracy, and who stood for the oppressed. Now, God’s statement regarding our text reflected extreme disappointment, extreme pain and ultimately resulted in extreme decision.

In the midst of this, Genesis 6:8 tells us that, “But Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord”. It is very important that we understand that GRACE CAN LOCATE YOU, AND YOU CAN LOCATE GRACE.

What is GRACE?

It is God’s help or assistance; God’s Riches At Christ’s Expense; God’s sufficiency making up for our insufficiency; God’s unmerited or undeserved favor.

It is interesting to note that many found grace to a great impact:

  1. ‘GRACE FOUND’ Lot, magnified mercy for him, saved his life, ushered him into Zoar and delivered him from destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah (Genesis 19:14-24).
  2. ‘GRACE FOUND’ gave Jacob access to Esau who had intended to avenge himself of past wrong (Genesis 33:1,4,8-11).
  3. ‘GRACE FOUND’ gave Joseph unusual support before Pharaoh (Genesis 50:4-9).
  4. ‘GRACE FOUND’ gave Moses access to God for insight into his assignment and permitted divine support (Exodus
    33:12-17).
  5. ‘GRACE FOUND’ gave Gideon comfort regarding the assignment and revelation of the presence of God (Judges
    6:11-12,17-24).
  6. ‘GRACE FOUND’ permitted Ruth unusual access and goodwill before Boaz (Ruth 2:8-15).
  7. ‘GRACE FOUND’ triggered limitless covenant relationship between David and Jonathan (1 Samuel 20:1-4).

Focusing on Noah, hear his testimony:

  1. JUST AND RIGHTEOUS MAN: Righteous – he did the right thing. Reference to his relationship with God, Genesis 6:9 says, “These are the generations of Noah: Noah was a just man…”
  2. PERFECT (Blameless) IN HIS GENERATIONS. He probably was not sinless but likely he had or displayed limited faults. He equally displayed moral integrity among his people. Genesis 6:9 says, “These are the generations of Noah: Noah was…perfect in his generations”.
  3. WALKED WITH GOD. This must have been root of Noah’s righteousness. Genesis 6:9 tells us, “These are the generations of Noah… Noah walked with God”. i.e. a close walk with God.  Regarding his great grandfather, Genesis 5:24 tells us, “And Enoch walked with God: and he was not; for God took him”. Noah imitated him. What examples can or will our children, grandchildren and great grandchildren draw from us?

Walking with God must have involved:

  • Calling on the name of the Lord. Genesis 4:26 “And to Seth, to him also there was born a son; and he called his name
Enos: then began men to call upon the name of the Lord”.
ii. Offering Sacrifice – which began in times of Cain and
    Abel properly.
    4. WAS OBEDIENT TO GOD: After carrying out
instructions concerning the construction of the Ark, the
Bible deliberately repeated three times that “Noah did
    according to all that God commanded him” (Genesis 6:22;
7:5; 9). Hebrews 11:7 confirms that, “By faith Noah, being
warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear,
prepared an ark to the saving of his house; by the which he
condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness
    which is by faith”.
    5. WAS A PREACHER OF RIGHTEOUSNESS: Noah
lived in an unusual world. He not only lived righteously but
proclaimed it. Matthew 24:37-39 testifies, “But as the days of
Noah were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. 38 For
